Education is a fundamental human right, yet Sub-Saharan Africa faces the highest rates of educational exclusion in the world. Without significant intervention by 2030, the UN estimates that 84 million children and youth will remain out of school.
While digital assets have the power to transform learning, the region faces a massive digital divide: less than 40% of the population is connected to the internet. How can we deliver modern, up-to-date educational resources to schools in remote areas that lack broadband infrastructure?
To solve this critical issue, non-profit ED4free has partnered with satellite leader Eutelsat, alongside ENENSYS and EKT. Together, they have developed a solution that combines the “EDBox”—an economical offline content server—with cutting-edge satellite broadcasting.
By leveraging the new DVB-Native IP standard, this technology bridges the gap between broadcast and broadband. It allows educational content to be pushed directly via satellite to local school servers, ensuring students and teachers have access to the latest curriculum without needing a local internet connection.
